FAQ, TERMS + CONDITIONS

HOW DO I PLACE AN ORDER?
Most orders can be fulfilled through the listings in my shop (coming soon) which houses a thoughtfully curated selection of frequently inquired about day-of details, elopement accessories and personal ephemera. For those with budgeting, time constraints or specialty requests fill out this form or email hello@blacktulipcalligraphy.com. To book with me directly, I require a 50% non-refundable retainer.

WHAT IS BLACK TULIP'S APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY/ECO-FRIENDLINESS?
It is my sincerest goal to develop a long-term and sustainable approach to living, both in my business and personal life. I constantly question my practices and spend many hours researching them, along with my materials, to find alternative eco-solutions that can be sustained over time. I am constantly reworking the details when I find something better. I primarily work in oils (no turps here!) and watercolors to avoid excessive micro-plastic waste from acrylic paint scraps and am careful to not over-pour my paints when I do work in acrylics. I recycle and reuse shipping materials when I can and do not use plastic (this includes tape!) on inner packaging. I'm currently in the prototyping phase for plastic-free outer packaging and hope to make that switch by the end of 2021.

HOW LONG DO YOUR JACKET DESIGNS LAST?
Every jacket is painted with the appropriate medium for that specific material. I use high-quality textile and leather paints, work in thin layers to minimize paint chipping, allow ample curing time and heat set designs before calling each piece complete. With normal wear and proper care of your jacket, no matter the material, you can expect many years from your design. Minimal washing with special care is strongly encouraged, and jackets should be kept clear of paint thinners or other harsh chemicals that could easily strip the design from your jacket. That being said, there is no guarantee included with the commissioning of work, and no way to tell exactly how long each jacket will last.

WHAT MAKES YOUR JACKET ART SERVICE VALUABLE?
Purchasing a custom jacket is like purchasing a piece of original art. Black Tulip jackets are painted thoughtfully with high-quality mediums and no design is replicated to ensure that everyone has an original piece. Your art is limited edition. Materials aside, when you buy a jacket from me you are paying for my 10+ years of art experience as a painter. If you can find a complex jacket design for a "too good to be true" price, chances are that either quality or expertise are lacking.

DO YOU OFFER FULLY CUSTOM INVITATIONS OR ANNOUNCEMENTS?
At this current time I do not offer fully custom invitation suites or announcements. For beautifully unique custom invitation suites, I encourage you to check out Kendra's work at Whole Weddings. Her invitation suites are printed on seed paper which not only makes beautiful invitations to look at, but when planted these invites bloom into flowers or herbs, making our world a little more beautiful to look at, too!

WHERE IS YOUR STUDIO LOCATED?
I am based in the creative capital (better known as Providence, Rhode Island)! My studio is actually a small closet space in the corner of our fixer upper's living room that has been lovingly converted into a built-in desk by my talented husband. I designed the space to be beautiful and functional, considering its small square footage of 7ft. It's a space I can call my own, and it houses my most-used art supplies, and my collection of special trinkets I've gathered or have been gifted throughout the years. Lastly, of course, I've painted the walls of this tiny nook black.
